Internet Bookselling News & Views, Issue #09 - Electronic Postage Scales November 19, 2012 |
November 19, 2012 Greetings; I always like to report on half price day. What's that? Every two weeks major thrift stores in my area hold a half price sale. Everything in the store is half off. Including books. Suddenly, $3.00 books become $1.50 books and $2.00 books become $1.00 books. That's a blended savings of $1.25 per book. Is that significant? Well, on a typical half price day, I'll buy 50 - 100 books. That's a savings of $62.50 to $125.00 in a single day that goes straight to the bottom line. When you consider the average sale price is $14.00, that's a significant amount of profit. I'll take that all day, every day. Except it's not every day, just half price days. That's why those sale days are so important to me. You see it's part of the old 80/20 rule. Twenty percent of your efforts will generate 80% of your profits. Half price day definitely falls in the 20% category. That rule holds true back at home and in your places of business too. Last week I spent a lot of time researching and writing about digital postage scales. Scales? Why postage scales? Because they're great productivity boosters. Purchasing an inexpensive electronic postal scale that's integrated with your computer system will save you time, money, and effort every time you pack and ship a book. Period. The scale will quickly pay for itself over and over for years to come. You can check out my overview at Ideal Postage Scales for Booksellers. There were lots of other blog postings this week too. All designed to help you manage or expand your business. They're all listed below. I bet you'll find something that'll help your business grow. Or at least become more profitable. One final thing. What do you think of this newsletter? eMail me and tell me how I can make it better. Has it helped your business? Can you use a little 1-on-1 consulting? You tell me how I can best help you and I'll do everything possible to make it happen. Good hunting.
